The film "Northfork" was captivating and enriched with various forms of symbolism. Each of the three stories led me to better understand the history behind where each one lived. I really liked how all of the buildings seemed temporary. For example, the church was missing the back which allowed the members to see the gorgeous and vast landscape that stretched in front of them. One of the houses was in the shape of a boat, which not only symbolized the temporary but also gave the film a religious sense. Also, other homes were set on blocks and not concrete.
Another symbol in the film was the cemetery. All of the graves were dug up which shows how the townspeople completely left their town vacant. I thought the whole concept of the cemetery was interesting because it symbolized the ultimate sign that a town is dead when the buried are no longer residing there.
Now for the symbolism of the men throughout the film. Obviously, the six men given the job to remove the town's residents represented fake angels. They wore a feather in their hat and said they were guardian angels, but the townspeople were only seen as an "it" once the men were given their jobs. Something I found interesting was how the men wore suits and everything around them was black, such as their luggage and cars. As for the suits, the angels in the film "Wings of Desire" wore suits. I guess it means that the angels want to have a sort of serious presence about them. Its funny how the angels in "Wings of Desire" are more similar to the fake angels in "Northfork." As for the real angels in "Northfork," I was kind of confused of the importance of the finding of the fifth angel. In all, I really enjoyed film's symbolism and the differences between the angels in this film and "Wings of Desire."
