Jeff Lee - Equilibrium

If you have not seen this film yet Professor Redick then you need to grab your car keys and head to the closest Hollywood video to rent it.  The movie takes place in a futuristic world where human emotion is outlawed.  Human emotion leads to civil strife and warfare, so why not just eliminate the problem?  Emotions are controlled by the drug prozium, which is incredibly similar to current prescription drugs prozac and xanax.  The movie is based on the life of Grammaton Cleric named Preston (Christian Bale).  He is pretty much a super cop without feeling or emotion.  The governing body which oversees and rules over Libria is controlled by one man called "Father."  Preston is the highest ranking cleric and serves his master faithfully until he is called upon to kill a little puppy.  After this experience he decides to not take his daily dose of prozium so that he might know what it is to feel.  His decision leads to a series of consequences in fighting with a group called the resistance against "Father" and the other clerics.  As the movie vaguely explains, there was a prophecy about such a man (Preston) that would help to bring down the dictatorship of the "Father."  The writers of this movie are taking a religious shot at Catholicism and the Pope by calling their ruthless dictator the "Father."  This anti-religious film has many elements that reflect a disdain for Christianity and Catholicism.  Great movie with a lot of religious symbolism.
