Jessie Gambardella - "The Blue Man"

It’s funny that someone should write about The Five People You Meet In Heaven because there is a quote by the Blue Man that I saved because it makes so much since and hit home.

“No life is a waste,” the Blue Man said.
“The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.” pg.50

In this passage from The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the Blue Man is explaining to Eddie, both who are dead, what Eddie should learn from meeting the Blue Man and how Eddie affected the Blue Man’s life. He’s saying to Eddie that we should not waste our time believing we are left alone because ultimately no life is pointless. This initially made me feel comforted and at ease knowing that I am not the only one that sometimes feels alone, everyone does at some point. Even if we are in a crowded room, a person can feel alone but they really are not alone at all.
Another example would be if you were in the midst of a forest or even an open field. There might not be any signs of people for miles; no noises, buildings, or smells of civilization. The first thought is that you are completely alone and possibly feeling lost or forgotten. The strange thing about this is that God’s presence is all around you in the grass, trees, flowers, and everything else common to nature. We are never truly alone when we think we are, we just have to stop and pay attention to everything around us that is screaming out to be noticed and remembered.
