Summary of the book "The Idea of the Holly" # 2 - Mrs.LE

Summary of Chapter XVII - Mrs. LE

Chap XVII: The Holy as and a Priori Category

Both the rational and the irrational elements of religion are necessary for understanding the priori elements. This is not a logical necessity, however. Beings who were once human and born out of fear become gods for other people to tell all of their sorrows or their happiness. Priori knowledge is when an assertion is made and understood and the knowledge of its truth comes into the mind as if the person had known it all their life. Luther comments on the priori but he does not mention that a person must feel a priori or not at all. The rational side of God can be distinguished by looking at the creation’s rational mind. The rational side of God is still incomprehensible to the creation, though. A religion needs rational elements so that it does not become fanaticism or mere mysticality.
