Ben Ash - Movie Blog 1 - The Jacket

I have to start this blog by saying I absolutely loved this movie. Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley were simply amazing in the film. One part I distinctly remember was the constant focus on Brody’s hand when he was in the hole. This evoked the idea of a baby in the womb for me, not completely coherent or even alive, but also a physical being in a way.
I also felt as though this move was a commentary on the treatment of soldiers in this country. After returning, he was met with difficult times and had been all but forgotten by the people he was fighting to protect. This seems sadly similar to the situation which actually exists here in America, where soldiers seems to be lost in the debate over Iraq and Afghanistan. The sad truth about America today, which I think this movie showed, was that people are quick to forget the sacrifice soldiers make and politicize the argument over the war, effectively neglecting any action taken by the members of the military
