The Purpose Driven Life is a devotional book written by Christian author Rick Warren. This book offers a 40-day spiritual journey and explores the five purposed from God for life on earth. It is so powerful and has affected so many people that it has stayed on the New York Times Best Seller List for years in a row. A May 2005 survey of American pastors and ministers conducted by George Barna asked Christian leaders to identify what books were the most influential on their lives and ministries. The Purpose Driven Life was the most frequent response. It is sold worldwide and become a common topic of Christian discussion. It is a blueprint for Christian living based on God’s eternal purposes not cultural values. It uses over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references; it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and evangelism. I have read this book myself more than once and have given it to friends and family members as gifts. I like it because you only read a few pages at a time. It’s not overwhelming; it gives you a specific thing to think about every day before you move on to the next. It is not only used for self reflection but it can be used as a teaching tool. In the back it has several discussion topics for each of the five purposes that work well in group settings. The Purpose Driven Life has many supplements to go along with the book there are journals, scripture cards, cds, a video curriculum, as well as a few other books. Everyone retains information in a different way and the author is aware of this and created away for everyone to have the opportunity to receive his message. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to reduce stress, focus their energy, simplify their decisions, and give meaning to their life.
