Rachel Conley - Reliquary statues
One thing I've learned about in my art history class this semester was reliquary statues, which I've never heard of before. They are little statues that hold relics, usually of saints. Now whether it is actually a relic from that saint or not is up for you to decide; it's all about having faith. Well, without knowing what it was, I realized that I had in fact seen a reliquary before, this past November when I was in Bruges. My friends and I went to a churchthat contained a vial people believed to hold the blood of Jesus. Now, being a skeptical person, I'm not sure that I actually believe it is really the blood of Jesus, but it is kind of neat to think that it could be. I was just excited that, without realizing, I had actually seen a reliquary, although I didn't actually get to see the relic, the vial.
