Ben Ash - Random Blog 5 - Harry Potter

For my final blog, I am going to go out with a display of nerd bravado and come out in support of Harry Potter. All throughout my middle school and high school years, right as Harry Potter was coming out and getting popular, I had shunned the books. I refused to pick up the books and be one of the kids obsessed with magic and wizardry. Then, January 2008 came.
For Christmas (note the irony of this for an Atheist), Santa had brought me a collection of the Harry Potter books. Again, I was still mildly afraid to read these books as they did seem to carry an aura of “nerd” with them. Once I picked up the first book and read the first page, however, there was no turning book. For over one and half months, my bed was a shrine to Harry Potter. If I wasn’t in class or working I was reading Harry Potter. Stints of 6 hours straight of reading were the norm.
To add comically to this, I will note that the longest game of “categories” in Kings which I have ever played (in this, someone names a category like “Colors”, then everyone in the circle has to name a color until someone repeats or messes up) involved naming Harry Potter characters. Thank you J.K. Rowling for the newest form of crack.
